At 5:40 PM Pacific Standard Time, May 3rd, 2016, an old tradition died. It was probably past its time- its malcontents had been devouring each other for decades already- but ultimately, it was Ted Cruz’s departure from the 2016 presidential nominating contest that broke the camel’s back. Movement conservatism as a political ideology is gone, for all intents and purposes, and it won’t be coming back.
Sure, Kasich is still in the race. Sure, Kasich is a child of the Reagan-Gingrich revolutions. Sure, the Establishment may well do all it can to push Kasich into the nomination.
But you know what? It doesn’t matter. Trump has for all intents and purposes won. He’ll go down into a landslide defeat against Hillary Clinton in November, and the GOP will recoil in anguish- the Establishment ripped to shreds, the conservative movement thoroughly discredited, a raging white nationalism seeping through the cracks, threatening to turn into an ugly Euro-style racist populism (if it isn’t that already.) The Grand Old Party will be lost.
That, my friends, is where we step in.
The Progressive Republican League is dedicated to establishing a renewed and rejuvenated Republican Party in the tradition of our greatest statesmen, all of whom inhabited the reformist political center. We aim to replace Reagan, Goldwater, and Kemp’s pantheon with that of Eisenhower, Nixon, and Rockefeller, not to mention Roosevelt and Lincoln. We will modernize it for the 21st Century, and carry the tradition into the future.
We invite you to join us along the way.
